BAU worked with stakeholders at Philadelphia’s premier Homeless Services Corporation to assess an existing safe haven homeless shelter and propose renovations in a feasibility study. The improvements focused on improving functionality, efficiency, and quality of life for building residents. The study explored ways to maximize comfort and functionality for residents and staff while adequately meeting the stringent demands of a high abuse environment. The issues and solutions identified in the feasibility study led to BAU being hired to design and orchestrate a multi-phase renovation project while the building remains occupied. BAU is leading this complicated endeavor through the many unforeseen conditions that arise when working with old buildings like this to ensure the project remains under budget and on schedule. Phase one improvements include a new secure and welcoming entry, intake and staff support spaces, upgraded finishes, lighting, and toilet facilities.
